Choosing the best replacement parts for your vehicle

From minis to massive trucks, powering up your vehicle is not just about the battery. It’s the right combination of your starter, alternator and battery – the complete power package – that keeps vehicles moving. Poor quality replacement parts can have a major impact on your vehicles electrical system. When it comes to starters and alternators, leading battery and rotating electrics distributor Probe continues to raise the bar in the industry by both importing and remanufacturing quality parts at affordable prices. Group CEO Frank Rovelli talks us through the options on aftermarket parts.

Vehicle technology is evolving so fast – when it comes to replacement parts, how do you make sure you have the right part for the job?

At Probe, we source our aftermarket products from the best plants in the world, like Delco-Remy, Leece-Neville and Prestolite. We then quality-check every part in our own electrical quality centre, so you can be assured of quality. We also assemble locally. These companies are constantly innovating to make sure they keep pace with the latest evolving vehicle technology – and they in fact supply many of the vehicle manufacturers or OEMS with the OEM branded parts in the first place. Depending on where you are in the lifecycle of the vehicle, you may want to also look at remanufactured options.

Can you explain the options when it comes to aftermarket parts?

You can purchase new branded parts we import from companies like Delco-Remy, Leece-Neville and Prestolite. Alternatively, remanufactured parts are a cost-effective option, especially for older vehicles. The Probe Value Line is our in-house range of OEM-equivalent starters and alternators. Each product is remanufactured following international standards and undergoes stringent quality testing before leaving the factory floor. We’re proud to have the lowest return rate out of all distributors.

So you don’t need to go to your OEM or dealership for a new part?

We supply in accordance with OEM specs and we’re OEM approved, so you’ll find the most cost-effective option, while still getting the best quality and the right specs for what you need. We want to be competitive, but give the client the best cost of ownership.

What kind of support does Probe offer?

We pride ourselves on the best aftermarket support. We also provide a repair workshop and remanufactured parts, to make sure that clients save money and get the parts they need without skimping on quality. Our Probe staff are very technical and we’re much more than just a box supplier. We have a national network to provide aftermarket service, and we’re also in Namibia, Botswana and Zambia.

What about older vehicles?

Probe stocks the largest range for the carpark in South Africa – so we’re guaranteed to meet your requirement for any vehicle and we can also advise you on the right option for where you are in the lifecycle of a vehicle. Our philosophy is as vehicles finish their service plan, maintenance lease or warranties they have with OEMS we need to take over and cater for the vehicle with good alternative parts that offer the same warranty. Then, as the vehicle gets old, we can put in a good quality remanufactured part. If the part for your older vehicle has become obsolete, we can make a plan through remanufacturing and repair.
